I'm linking up with First Grade and Fabulous again for Picture Book Linky Party #2.
I love using literature for any curriculum...Science, Social Studies, Reading, Math, etc...!
We all know that the combinations of 10 are very important and so there is a big push for the children to practice them. I use the following 2 books when I guide the students to explore and discover the combinations.
Ten Flashing Fireflies is about a brother and sister that catch fireflies one by one. Later, as their lights begin to dim, they decide to release them one by one.
I also use this Ten Flashing Fireflies Math Activity Kit by Ms. Arnold.
You can find it at her TpT store.
The students can practice making 10 after you read this book.
It includes these adorable little fireflies that you can use as necklaces, so the children can help act out the story.
There are sorting mats and a game for playing Make 10.
This is a great Math Station activity!
She also includes adorable little fireflies to copy, laminate and cut out. The students can use these as manipulatives as they are counting and acting out the problems.
Here is a sample of the recording sheet.
I also like to read Ten For Me.
In this story, Rose and her friend Ed race to see who can catch the most butterflies. Each day they come home with a total of 10 butterflies between the two of them.
I have lots of other favorite picture books to use in Math,
but these are two of my newest additions.
